Targeted Corvid Control for Urban, Rural & Agricultural Sites
Corvid control is essential when crows, rooks, jackdaws, and magpies create risks for agriculture, buildings, or public health. Therefore, effective corvid control is vital to prevent serious damage. Whether they’re attacking livestock, damaging crops, or raiding waste bins, Sky Raiders delivers practical, legally compliant solutions based on real-world experience and current UK General Licences.
Why Corvids Cause Problems
- Aggressive Nest Defence – Especially jackdaws and crows around buildings, animals, and people. In particular, they can become aggressive during nesting season. In addition, these birds often harass livestock and cause stress to farm animals.
- Structural Damage – Nesting in chimneys, vents, solar panel arrays, and electrical cabinets. As a result, maintenance teams often face costly repairs and safety risks.
- Crop Raiding – Crows and rooks are notorious for stripping grain, seedlings and silage. Furthermore, their activity can wipe out entire planting cycles in a matter of days.
- Waste Disruption – Bins, refuse areas and food stores get regularly attacked by corvids. In turn, this increases hygiene concerns and attracts other pests.
Our Corvid Control Methods
We use a range of corvid control methods tailored to each site…
Birds of Prey
Used to disperse flocks and disrupt territory holding. Therefore, this approach works especially well in open farmland and around landfill sites. As a result, it is particularly effective around rookeries and landfill or feed zones.
Shooting (Where Permitted)
We carry out discreet shooting using air rifles or rimfires under General Licence GL42, only where serious damage or risk is demonstrable and meets legal criteria. In other words, we only use this method when absolutely necessary.
Trapping (Under Licence)
We check traps regularly, and in addition, we never deploy them without clear justification.
Nest Prevention (Jackdaws Only)
Under GL41, Sky Raiders may remove or interfere with jackdaw nests to preserve public health or public safety. No other corvid nest removals are allowed under General Licence.
Legal Scope: Know What’s Permitted
You may only carry out corvid control where there’s a demonstrable risk to:
- Livestock (attack, disease, or feed damage)
- Crops, fruit and vegetables
- Certain public health or conservation concerns (case-by-case)
Each corvid species has different legal limits, consequently, our corvid control services are always tailored to meet the exact licence requirements. Sky Raiders operate strictly within the current DEFRA guidelines and General Licence terms, GL42 for control actions and GL41 for jackdaw nest management. For a broader overview of how we manage other species, see our Bird Control Services.
